On Sunday night, Ross McMakin, of Philomath, Oregon, was arrested for DUI after allegedly driving over a sidewalk in his Ford Ranger pickup truck, hitting a parked car, and attacking his girlfriend, all in the same evening.
In what seems too fitting for the occasion, McMakin, cuffed by police, was wearing a shirt that sported the line “Drunk as shit,” something that does not help his case to any extent but something he could have picked up from anywhere selling custom printed t-shirts. What may be deemed funny in a typical party setting may just hurt him in the end.
McMakin’s girlfriend tried to take the car keys away from him, but ended up paying the price when he turned around and tried to strangle her. He told the police that he had no other choice but to get behind the wheel so they could get home. The reason why he had to drive: his girlfriend did not know how to drive a stick shift. He was leaving a party was dropping his girlfriend at her home, and proceeded to drive off again.
At 3:30 a.m., as he was leaving his girlfriend’s residence, cops were called by his girlfriend, who described everything that happened throughout the course of the evening leading up to her drop-off and strangulation.
As he was dropping her off, she grabbed his keys and ran into her home, only to have him follow her, push, and choke her, grabbing the keys and getting away.
His blood alcohol was reportedly twice the legal limit, according to the Corvallis Gazette-Times, which posted the police log describing the incident and arrest.
McMakin’s girlfriend had minor injuries and did not seek medical attention.
McMakin has been charged with reckless endangerment, drunk driving, harassment, and strangulation by the police, and has been booked into the Benton County Jail.
