With the Brisbane and Melbourne shows already come and gone, renowned and infamous comedian Steve-O is heading for his final four destinations: first to Adelaide (Aug 1), Sydney (Aug 2) and Perth (Aug 3), then to a recently-added August 4 show in Darwin as his final stop.
He'll be in good company in Australia - where comedians and entertainers abound. In fact, for those looking to book talented comedians for live comedy shows, check out Left of Centertainment, Australia's premier comedy talent roster.
The rambunctious stuntman, daredevil and comic of Jackass and Wildboyz fame has been entertaining and grossing out fans since Jackass’ inception in 2000. Since then he’s starred in several spinoff movies of the popular series, as well as his own stage shows.
Before starring in the iconic MTV series, Steve-O (real name Stephen Glover) attended Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Clown College to hone his skills as a stuntman and reach his goal of going pro.
His outrageous antics became hugely popular across America and beyond when actor and journalist Johnny Knoxville recruited him to be on Jackass, his upcoming show for MTV.
But after a few years of doing the show and making a couple of films, Steve-O started to lose his mind, bingeing on all sorts of drugs and filming himself acting insanely. The decline in popularity of the show and films led to more and more desperate attempts at acceptance and recognition, which lead to Knoxville organizing an intervention to get him help.
Thankfully, all of that is behind him, now; at 40 years young, Steve-O has been sober for 6 years, and has a new positive outlook on life.
“Am I constantly racking my brain to figure out how to be at the forefront of something else that’s new and exciting? The answer is yes,” Steve-O told Time Out Melbourne.
“I could be doing so much more,” he said. “What’s on my mind is how to take my career to [the] next level. What are the next stunts and pranks that I want to do, and how can I pull them off in public without being recognized as Steve-O, and also pull it all into a narrative that’s completely unique?”
While he strategizes for his next big moves, he’s touring on stage with a performance that’s just as wild and ridiculous as any of his earlier antics; only now he’s got his head on straight, mind facing forward, ready to dive into the future with confidence.
